I Love Going to Church

I love going to church. I know that I am a Pastor and I am supposed to say that. I know that it is my calling to serve the church and that’s how I make my living and support my family but be that as it may, I love going to church! I love going to church on Sunday morning, Sunday night and yes, I even love going to church on Wednesday night! I just love going to church. I love gathering together with my fellow Christians each week to worship God and celebrate the gospel and God’s goodness through prayer, music, giving, and the preaching of God’s Word. I think attending church each Sunday should be a non-negotiable habit for every Christian. I realize that there are times when attending church on a given Sunday may not be possible but unless we are “providentially hindered” as the preachers of yesterday use to say, I think Christians ought to be in church on the Lord’s Day. Making church attendance a high priority in our life communicates to an unbelieving world and to our family about what matters most to us. You could play golf on Sunday, you could go fishing, you could go shopping, sleep in or go out and make some more money, but when you are committed to making Sunday a day of worship, when you are consistently in church Sunday morning and Sunday night, that commitment shouts loud and clear to your family and to the world about what you value in this world and about what is most important to you. But, when you devalue church by not making church attendance a consistent priority, you do exactly the opposite. When a Christian casually misses church or when they consistently allow attending church on the Lord’s Day to be bumped because of some other activity, when a Christian goes to church on Sunday only when they have nothing else to do this choice of priority will not be lost on the world and it will not be lost on their family. The Bible says that when Jesus was growing up in Nazareth it was His custom to go to the synagogue, the forerunner of the church, each Sabbath day (Luke 4:16). If Jesus physically lived in our community where would He be each Sunday? He would be in God’s House with God’s people! Make church your priority and you will be blessed. By the way, if you don’t attend church on Sunday nights, let me encourage you to try it. Over the years some of the most powerful church services I have been a part of have been on Sunday nights. For some reason we tend to think that Sunday morning worship is more important than Sunday night worship. Who says this is true? Where is that in the Bible?  I prepare just as diligently for my Sunday night messages as I do for the ones I preach on Sunday morning. Sunday is the Lord’s Day not just the Lord’s Morning. Why not try  Sunday night church this Sunday?  I know you will be blessed.   See you Sunday, Bro. Chris
